Hydrogen energy is one of the internationally recognized next-generation energy sources. As we all know, energy, as one of the pillars of social development, has its necessity and importance. So new energy must meet two conditions: the energy density of new energy must be higher than that of existing energy in order to replace existing energy. The second one is environmentally friendly. And hydrogen energy precisely possesses such characteristics, so from an energy perspective, it fully possesses the characteristics of the next generation of new energy. Therefore, building a hydrogen energy society has become a consensus in the international community.
In the past, when we talked about the hydrogen energy society, we would think it was far away from us, but in reality, the hydrogen energy society is very close to us, even right in front of us. The timetable for the withdrawal of fuel vehicles in various countries has been announced. At the latest by 2040, the UK will withdraw from gasoline vehicles, while some other countries will withdraw earlier. In this sense, what is the next generation of cars? Major automobile companies have launched the next generation of main models, which are fuel cell and hydrogen powered vehicles. Last year, Premier Li Keqiang also went to see such a car. The main core technology of hydrogen powered vehicles is hydrogen fuel cells. So where is hydrogen? Engineering teachers know that hydrogen is difficult to store because its molecules are the smallest and suffer from hydrogen embrittlement. Now that carbon fiber bottles have completely solved the problem of hydrogen embrittlement, their safety is beyond doubt. At present, our country has given sufficient attention to hydrogen energy and hydrogen fuel cells. Before the 2018 Spring Festival, the country established the Hydrogen Energy and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Industry Innovation Alliance. I am fortunate to be a member of the Strategic Guidance Committee. Hydrogen energy, as an emerging strategic industry in the country, should play a very important role in the upcoming 14th Five Year Plan, so we hope that our school can give sufficient attention.
